How Long Does an Open Bottle of Wine Last?
It will depend on the type of wine and how well the wine is stored. Fortified wines can last open for up to a month, but most table wines last only about 3–5 days before they start to spoil.
Don’t worry though, “spoiled” wine is essentially just vinegar, so it’s not going to harm you, instead use it for cooking!
Here’s how long different styles of wine last open.
Sparkling Wine: 1–3 days in the fridge with a sparkling wine stopper
Light White, Sweet White and Rosé Wine: 5–7 days in fridge
Full-Bodied White Wine: 3–5 days in fridge
Red Wine: 3–5 days in a cool dark place with a cork
Fortified Wine: 28 days in a cool dark place
When you know you can’t drink it anymore, it’s in perfect shape for cooking. Use it to marinate or in a pasta sauce! 🍷🍷
